Employees Leave Bosses, Not Companies

You might have heard the expression: "Employees leave bosses, not companies." While employees look to change positions for a number of reasons, including career advancement, location, and financial opportunity, having a conflict with one's supervisor is oftentimes reported as the number one reason employees leave their position. The Birkman Method®is able to pinpoint where a supervisor is not meeting the needs of his subordinates. Our unique "Differences to Watch" report can be a critical tool in highlighting the gap areas that may be bridged through coaching and development exercises. To learn more, click here.

Work Styles Play a Big Role in Retention

Traditionally, employees have been placed in a position based on "hard skills": typing 90 words a minute; managing, deploying and supporting PC software applications; or experience with full P&L responsibility, for example. Hard skills can be easily determined through resume reference checks, previous work documentation, interviews and on-site or on-line skills testing. However, hard skills are not sufficient to form a complete job fit that results in a long-lasting working relationship.

Without understanding an individual's natural work style and how it fits into the company's culture and particular position within the company, there is a big opportunity for a mismatch, leading to job dissatisfaction and unnecessary employee turnover. The Birkman Method® is ideal for testing for work styles, allowing you to place individuals in a position that suits their personality and allowing them to thrive within a harmonious environment.
