Behavior Assessment Improves Workplace Performance
HOUSTON, TX - October 3: The Birkman Method® assessment is being used by global corporations for on-boarding new employees, coaching managers, developing leaders and improving team performance.
In the world of organizational development, the Birkman has a proven track record for providing comprehensive insights into employee behaviors and motivations, providing the basis for better employee engagement and accelerating the opportunity for employee development.
"The Birkman is the only available test that combines motivational, behavioral, and interest evaluation into one single assessment," said Sharon Birkman Fink, CEO Birkman International. "The test is therefore extremely time and cost effective, providing comprehensive analysis and reducing the need to use multiple, sometimes conflicting tools."
Dr. Roger Birkman first created the test in 1951, a result of research conducted at the University of Texas in psychological instruments for pilot selection in the U.S. Air Force. After decades of refinement, the Birkman continues to be the premier tool able to probe employees. underlying needs that relate to work, relationships, and maintaining successful teams.
The Birkman assessment is delivered on-line and takes about 45 minutes to complete. Respondents answer 298 questions. Through a process of regression and factor analysis, the Birkman identifies a person's everyday interpersonal style, underlying motivations, expectations and the signs of stress behavior, along with interests and job preference.
The Birkman focuses on five major perspectives:
- 1. An individual's effective behavioral style of dealing with relationships and tasks;
-
- 2. An individual's expectations of how relationships and social situations should be governed in the context of the relationship or situation;
-
- 3. An individual's ineffective style of dealing with relationships or tasks and behavior observed when underlying needs are not met;
-
- 4. An individual's expressed preference for job titles based on the assumption of equal economic rewards;
-
- And the perspective in which an individual views problems and solutions relating to organizational goals.
Taken together, this information creates a powerful lens that can see through many seemingly unrelated issues and provide innovative, creative solutions to workplace challenges. It is particularly effective in assimilating new employees into the workplace culture, coaching managers in new behaviors, allowing leaders to develop their strengths and bringing together teams. Implemented by over two million individuals in thousands of work situations, Birkman is utilized by many of the largest companies throughout the world, as well as smaller independent consultancies.
"People have hidden strengths, needs, and motivations that are rarely discussed and hardly ever change as the years go by," added Fink. "But most people have no idea what they are. If these issues are not confronted, they are put under stress, and traditionally do not perform at their best or even at capacity. This is not good for the individual, the team or the company. We give people a way to understand themselves better and those with whom they work. This is priceless for ensuring a fuller employee engagement with their job and the ultimate success of the business itself."
